Healthy Recipes

Quite often patients will approach us and ask us what we eat. Luckily, Piro Clinic is staffed with a group that loves to cook! Below are some of our favorite recipes. We are proponents of clean ingredients - organic, natural, cage-free, grass-fed, wild caught, etc. Though the recipes do not include these modifiers, please know that these are the quality of ingredients that we highly recommend!

 

Brittany's Beet Salad
* 3-4 beets; roasted, peeled and cubed
* 4 oz feta cheese, crumbled
* 1/4 cp chopped onion
* 1-2 TBSP olive oil
* 2-3 TBSP rice vinegar
* Salt, to taste

Mix ingredients together. Serve chilled.
Super delicious!  A great way to introduce beets to the "beet wary."

Dr. Piro says, "beets are excellent to help prevent gallstones, thin the bile, flush the liver and cleanse the colon!"

 

Stacy's Black Bean Hummus
* 1 can (15 oz.) black beans, rinsed and drained

* 2 TBSP fresh lime juice
* 1/2 TBSP tahini
* 1 garlic clove, peeled
* 1 fresh jalapeno pepper, chopped

* 1/2 - 1 full bunch fresh cilantro (or to taste)
* cumin, salt and red pepper to taste

* 1-2 TBSP extra-virgin olive oil


Place garlic and jalapeno in food processor. Process until finely chopped. Add black beans, tahini, lime juice and seasonings. Process until smooth. With food processor running, drizzle in olive oil slowly until hummus is desired consistency. Serve with veggies, gluten free crackers or chips.
